How’s the work-from-home situation been for the last several weeks? More than likely you’ve run into a snag or two, had trouble collaborating, or difficulty staying connected with your team.

Lots of small to medium-sized businesses are finding they weren’t set up well for a fully remote work week.

That’s why this week we want to highlight some great platforms that are offering free/low-cost solutions to your work-from-home challenges so you can stay connected and adapt to the change more easily. Some services that might serve you well long-term as the balance between time in the office, and work from home shifts.

For meetings:


Workflow and team collaboration tools.

The company’s flagship products, Jira (issue-and-project-tracking software) and Confluence (team-collaboration), will now be free for teams of up to ten people. 


Online board meetings.

Nonprofits who sign on before the end of April can use Boardable at no cost for 90 days to manage virtual meetings and committees.


Videoconferencing service.

Cisco is boosting the capabilities of the free version of its videoconferencing software and removing time limits on meetings. They’ve also expanded the service capacity so that it can support up to 100 people on a call.


Videoconferencing service and online productivity.

Google Cloud is offering its advanced Hangouts Meet video conferencing capabilities for all customers of its G-Suite and G-Suite for Education services. This enables calls with up to 250 participants and allows meetings to be recorded and saved on Google Drive.


For team collaboration:


Cloud collaboration and file storage.

Box business edition is available for free for 90 days and includes loss-of-data protection and unlimited storage.


Meeting scheduling software

Calendly integrations with video conferencing services like Zoom, is now free and the company will also be offering unpaid access to its premium service for teams working on projects to tackle COVID-19.


Team collaboration and communication platform.

Microsoft Teams, revoking the user limit on its free version (previously restricted to 300 people). The company is also making the basic version of Office 365 tools such as Word and Excel free for six months to organizations.


Voice-transcription service.

Organizations can get free access for two months to Otter for Teams, which automatically transcribes meetings. Those who sign up to the service by May 1 will be able to add up to ten of their employees to the service as users.


Electronic signatures for documents.

PandaDoc is now offering a free e-signature service with no limits to the number of documents uploaded and managed.


Team collaboration and communication platform.

Threads is making its Pro offering, which can support up to 100 members, free through July 1.


Video messaging service.

Vidyard for Internal Communications allows employees to communicate with one another and to allow employers to share video messages with their workforces. This new service is now available at no cost through June 30. 


Team performance management

Workhuman is making special editions of its Life Events and Conversations products free until March 2021 so teams stay in touch on the personal as well as the professional.


For marketing/sales:


Online advertising

Adzooma is making its tools for managing digital ads on Google and Facebook free of charge until June 1.


Video content recording and streaming

Panopto Cloud allows users to record and distribute video content, and is providing this service for free for three months with unlimited video capture and streaming.

The company is making its screen recording tool, Snagit, and its collaboration platform, Video Review free to use through the end of June.

For ops:


Payments processing

Businesses who are feeling the financial press of this crisis can get a free, three-month subscription to the service to run payables and receivables remotely.


Supply-chain software

Bonfire helps distributors with strategic sourcing. It’s platform is free of charge to public-sector organizations in North America through the end of July.


Customer-communication software

Genesys is offering up to 90 days of free access to its platform. Companies using it can launch a secure, cloud-based contact center for customer service teams.


Cloud-based business productivity.

IBM is offering access to products in their suite such as IBM Aspera, high-speed file-sharing and team collaboration, and IBM Sterling supply-chain management service. 


Cloud-based call centers and business-continuity planning.

Talkdesk has made its business-continuity service free for 90 days for organizations that sign up before May 1.
